They now understand that we all have a skeleton, that we have 206 bones, and that each bone has a name. They are now able to identify bones such as cranium, clavicle, humerus, pelvis, vertebrae as part of the backbone, femur, tibia, and more.

On Fridays, during our Project session, all three kindergarten students gather at the shared classroom along with their grade teachers. Every week, 1 o 2 teachers take the lead and prepare an activity related to each topic. They are accompanied and supported by the rest of the team. We had Olga Margarita and Sandra Salcedo leading a literature and music activity related to our names. Students shared the stories behind their names and played composing and decomposing them. Camila read a story about protecting our bodies against germs, and we discussed some of the healthy routines required in school and at home to keep Covid at bay. Wilson, Jorge and Erika, created an activity where students recreated the immune system; some became viruses, others where health boosters such as vaccines, and other were infected by the virus.

The past two weeks we have been working to create our own version of the Skeleton Dance. We wanted a song that was fun and that helped students learn the names of the bones, but since we couldn’t find one, we decided to make our own adaptation to fit our purpose. Our goal is to create a complete audiovisual production where students can sing and dance our version of the skeleton dance, and use green screen technology. Currently, students are able to name, locate, and label the most important bones in our bodies.

We will continue exploring the different systems, and our next stop will be the muscular system! We hope to get a lot of input from families and other health experts in our community in order to enrich our project and meet our goal.
