Students asked themselves if tested the school\u2019s water reservoir had the adequate conditions to sustain life; to answer their investigative question, they measured alkalinity, pH, number of nitrates, number of phosphates and amount of dissolved oxygen. Based on their results they were able to determine which variables needed to be modified and proposed some ways to improve the quality of the ecosystem.\u00a0 Students used their findings to construct a scientific explanation of the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of organisms, and to organize information and ideas through graph organizers depending on the information collected and the message they wanted to communicate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> With this activity, students also practice the following science skills: Planning and Carrying Out Investigations, Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Constructing Explanations and Designing Solution. Los estudiantes se preguntaron si el reservorio del colegio ten\u00eda las condiciones adecuadas para sustentar vida; para responder a su pregunta de investigaci\u00f3n, midieron la alcalinidad, el pH, la cantidad de nitratos, la cantidad de fosfatos y la cantidad de ox\u00edgeno disuelto. Con base en sus resultados pudieron determinar qu\u00e9 variables deb\u00edan modificarse y propusieron algunas formas de mejorar la calidad del ecosistema. Los estudiantes usaron sus hallazgos para construir una explicaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica del papel de la fotos\u00edntesis en el ciclo de la materia y el flujo de energ\u00eda hacia y desde los organismos, y para organizar informaci\u00f3n e ideas a trav\u00e9s de organizadores gr\u00e1ficos seg\u00fan la informaci\u00f3n recopilada y el mensaje que quer\u00edan comunicar.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Con esta actividad, los estudiantes tambi\u00e9n practicaron las siguientes habilidades cient\u00edficas: planear y realizar investigaciones, analizar e interpretar datos, construir explicaciones y dise\u00f1ar soluciones. Adem\u00e1s, trabajaron de manera cooperativa y se divirtieron mucho tomando las muestras y realizando el experimento.
