Kindergarten students are learning about food, healthy habits, and are working in improving their diet by including new foods, especially fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>We are also learning where food comes from and where it goes after we are done absorbing its nutrients. For this purpose we read the story \u201cWhy Do I Poo?\u201d By Kristy Holmes (in Epic). Students had a great time learning about poop and sharing funny stories about it.<\/p>\n<p>After our hilarious story and circle meeting sharing our theories of where our poop goes, kinder students visited the school\u2019s Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWDP) with a stop at the compost containers. Students witnessed where food residues go when they don\u2019t finish eating their food, then they observed the different steps of the water treatment process at Rochester. They had Orlando Rocha as a tour guide who explained the complete process and invited them to improve their eating habits, to reduce the amount of water they waste, and to dispose paper towels in the waste container instead of flushing them down the toilet.<\/p>\n<p>Kindergarten students now understand that water at Rochester School undergoes a purifying process so that it can be reused in the school toilets and we can save drinking water by it. Also, they learned that food produces the chemical energy that our bodies need to move, grow, think, learn and live.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Camila Clavijo Abenoza<br \/> Virtues Development and Real World English<br \/> Kinder<\/strong><br \/> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00eda de la Energ\u00eda en Jard\u00edn &#8211; Me Gusta la Comida!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El 24 de enero celebramos el D\u00eda de la Energ\u00eda haciendo conexiones con nuestro proyecto integrado \u201cIncredible Me\u201d (El Incre\u00edble Yo), y con nuestro campus como texto vivo. Los estudiantes de Jard\u00edn est\u00e1n aprendiendo sobre los alimentos, h\u00e1bitos saludables, y est\u00e1n trabajando en mejorar sus dietas al incluir nuevos grupos alimenticios, especialmente frutas y verduras.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n estamos aprendiendo d\u00f3nde se producen los alimentos y para d\u00f3nde van una vez absorbemos todos sus nutrientes y se convierte en deshechos. Por esta raz\u00f3n le\u00edmos el cuento \u201cWhy Do I Poo?\u201d (Por qu\u00e9 hago pop\u00f3) de Kristy Holmes (en Epic). Los ni\u00f1os se divirtieron aprendiendo sobre el pop\u00f3 y compartiendo algunas historias graciosas sobre este.<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de nuestra divertida historia y de hacer una reuni\u00f3n de c\u00edrculo para formular nuestras teor\u00edas sobre d\u00f3nde va el pop\u00f3, los estudiantes de Jard\u00edn visitaron la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales (PTAR) del colegio, e hicieron una parada en la compostera. All\u00ed los ni\u00f1os pudieron comprender qu\u00e9 sucede con los alimentos que no se comen, y observaron los diferentes pasos del proceso de\u00a0 tratamiento de aguas en el Rochester. Fueron liderados por Orlando Rocha, quien les hizo el tour por la PTAR, les explic\u00f3 el proceso completo, y los invit\u00f3 a mejorar sus h\u00e1bitos alimenticios, a reducir la cantidad de agua que desperdician, y a depositar correctamente las toallas de papel en los colectores en vez de echarlas en el inodoro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Los estudiantes de jard\u00edn ahora comprenden que el agua del Colegio Rochester pasa por un proceso de purificaci\u00f3n para que pueda ser reutilizada en los sanitarios del colegio y as\u00ed podamos ahorrar agua potable.
