It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about global food security and hunger issues. The day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1981 and has been celebrated every year since.<\/p>\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The primary goals of World Food Day are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">1. Raise awareness: The day aims to inform people around the world about the problems of poverty and hunger, as well as to encourage a greater understanding of the complexities of food production, distribution, and consumption.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2. Promote action: World Food Day encourages people, communities, and organizations to take action against hunger and food insecurity, whether through individual initiatives or supporting larger global efforts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">3. Advocate for change: It&#8217;s a platform for advocating for policies and programs that can help address food-related challenges, including malnutrition, food waste, and agricultural sustainability.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Rochester school celebrated World Food Day on Oct. 18.\u00a0 We raised awareness about the 85 kilograms of food waste we generate, on average, daily.\u00a0 Rochi the Lion went to lower primary and kindergarten students and taught them about the importance of eating all their food.\u00a0 The Sustainable Development Club students went classroom to classroom and shared a Zero Waste Challenge to Middle and High school students.\u00a0 A booth was placed in front of the cafeteria where students could learn about how much sugar is in different types of food. They could also participate in the baby elephant challenge.\u00a0 The challenge consisted of lifting a dumbbell equal to the amount of food waste we generate daily, which is also equal to the weight of a baby elephant.\u00a0 Overall, the day was a success.
